Skills: teach Claude your company's way of doing things

Stop re-explaining your tone and process in every chat. Package it once.

Skills (shipped by Anthropic last October) are folders of instructions, examples and templates that Claude loads when a task matches. Think of them as onboarding documents for your AI — written once, applied every time.

Skills worth creating for a small business:

  • Brand voice — tone rules plus five real examples of emails/posts you loved and a few you'd never send.
  • Offer sheet — services, prices, what's included, how you handle objections.
  • Document formats — your proposal structure, invoice notes, report template.

The payoff is consistency: with the same skill loaded, Monday's answer matches Thursday's, and the agent's third draft sounds like your best day, not a random intern. If you find yourself pasting the same context twice — that's a skill asking to be written.
